PRWeb:  Austin, TX, May 7, 2013 – ‘Preppers’ is a term given to the growing numbers of people who are preparing for disasters and disruptions of all sorts.  The prepper movement includes a wide range of people from those who are ready to handle a few days disruption to those who are getting ready for TEOTWAWKI (the end of the world as we know it).

The possible collapse scenarios range from pandemics, major terrorism events, tsunamis, nuclear meltdowns, meteorites striking Earth, military coups, and famines.

Of all the big scenarios for collapse, what do preppers consider most likely to occur?

A recent survey with 1,840 prepper respondents showed an overwhelming 76% believe Marjory giving presentation authoriatarian shotthe most likely big disaster is Economic Collapse.  “Given the recent concerns with a US Fiscal Cliff, the banking meltdown in Europe, and the unsustainable accumulation of debt by governments around the world, this response is not so surprising” says Marjory Wildcraft, a leader in the survival and preparedness industry.  Wildcraft has been described as the ‘Martha Stewart of self-reliance’.  She Is a regular guest on national radio and television shows and was recently featured as an expert in sustainable living on National Geographic’s hit series “Doomsday Preppers”.  Wildcraft is an author of several books, but is best known for her video series Grow Your Own Groceries (www.GrowYourOwnGroceries.com/dvd), which is a crash course on growing food that is used by homesteaders, survivalists, universities, and missionary organizations.

Kevin Barber, owner of the online training school Mainstream Preppers (www.MainstreamPreppers.com) agrees with the survey findings.  “In the surveys we’ve conducted we’ve found very similar results – economic collapse is by far, the biggest concern among preppers”.

Jack Spirko, host of the popular  Survival Podcast  (www.TheSurvivalPodcast.com) also agrees that much of his audience sees the financial situation as the biggest concern among the many possibilities.  Spirko is quoted as saying “economic collapse is a matter of when, not if”.

To meet the growing demand for information and skills related to self-reliance and sustainable living, Wildcraft has created an online information center at www.GrowYourOwnGroceries.org with free resources on

Why the emphasis on growing your own groceries?  “Regardless of the collapse scenario, being able to feed your family will be your biggest concern,” says Wildcraft.  “It is well known that there are only about 4 days worth of food supplies in the grocery stores, and your food travels to you an average of 1500 miles.  Any event that interrupts the just-in-time trucking system will mean people will be looking for food as a first priority.  Of all the skills you need to survive, growing food is one of the most challenging”.

Wildcraft’s crash course video set Grow Your Own Groceries is rapidly becoming the standard video training tool and reference source for people who want to learn how to grow food and take control of their food supply.

Grow Your Own Groceries is endorsed by The Permaculture Activist, NaturalNews.com, World Hunger Relief Missionaries, The Organic Consumers Association, Alex Jones’ Infowars, and The Weston-Price Nutrition Foundation.

The principles in the DVD training course are universal and are applicable to everyone living anywhere, regardless of climate. People who live in apartments can also grow their own food.

Wildcraft’s new site at www.GrowYourOwnGroceries.org offers much more than simply growing food and is quickly becoming the ‘go to’ source for information for people new to prepping.  There is a large selection of videos, articles, and podcasts that provide useful information that is easy to understand.  “We focus on practical information delivered with a bit of humor and lots of inspiration,” says Wildcraft, who noted that survival and preparedness used to be associated with fear tactics and gloom and doom.  “I take the perspective that yes, change is coming – now how do we make the best of it?” says Wildcraft.

New preppers can get a series of impactful videos delivered to their inbox every week for free when they subscribe to Wildcraft’s “Getting Started Kit” at www.GrowYourOwnGroceries.org.  You can also get a free report titled “How Much Land Do You Need To Grow All Of The Food You Want”.

“Marjory Wildcraft’s emails are so well written and so useful, I print them out and keep them in a binder,” says Jeff Deere of Dallas, Texas.

Creating the www.GrowYourOwnGroceries.org site is part of a mission for Wildcraft, who is passionate about sustainable living and self-reliance.  Wildcraft points out that homegrown food on every table is a solution to so many problems we are collectively facing – including economic collapse.

On the survey…..can’t understand why “environmental collapse” was not a choice. This is clearly happening right now with the worlds oceans, water supply, industrial farming, bee colony collapse, etc. Most everything is tied to economics, so no surprise the overwhelming response.
Marjory, thank you for your hard work on all you do. I love reading the emails and your sound advise.

    • Marjory Wildcraft

      Hi Jini,

Ooohhh, that is a good one – which didn’t get on the list.

You know, the whole survey is kinda silly. I mean really, if you are preparing for one, you are preparing for almost all of them. But you know, it was fun to do. Personally I was shocked at the overwhelming 76% on economic collapse.

Hey, thanks for your support. Really, this business is a love and passion, and not quite profitable. LOL Please spread the word about the blog if you can.

Very good review. The results were what I thought they would be. Now with the May snow out of the way, it’s time to get back to the garden.

I am very interested in learning container gardening and would appreciate your adding in this information as well. The medium sized white barrels with a central tube for compost and worm castings are of particular interest as they grow a lot of food in a small space. Details on how to make and use these barrels would fill a need for those without available land to grow food. Also please indicate if your garden growing dvd is without animal sacrifice, as I am averse to watching any animals being killed for food. Thank you.

    • Marjory Wildcraft

Well, I m sorry to disappoint, but yes, I raise animals for meat. And the video set has a section that shows you step by step how to butcher a rabbit and a chicken. Animals are a very important part of the process.

Economic collapse is probably the main concern for me as I prepare. I am also learning to grow my own veggies (at 71 yrs old). I’m learning other self-sustaining skills, too, such as canning, sewing on a treddle machine, etc. Enjoy your emails and continue to learn from them. I bought your DVD set thru Amazon, and have watched it several times. Thanks for all you do to help us be ready the SHTF.

    • Marjory Wildcraft

      Hi Helen,

thanks so much for your vcomments. Sounds like you are doing all you can and are ahead in a few key areas. Thansk so much for your purchase – it really helps to support our work.

IT SEEMS THE WHOLE PREPPER MOVEMENT IS TURNING INTO A COMMERCIAL FOR PROFIT INDUSTRY. BUY THIS, BUY THAT, THE SAME KIND OF DYNAMIC THAT HAS CREATED THE CONDITIONS FOR ECONOMIC COLLAPSE IN AMERICA. NEVER LET A CRISIS GO TO WASTE WHEN THERE’S MONEY TO BE MADE AND YOU CAN USE PEOPLES FEARS TO DRIVE THE MARKET.

    • Marjory Wildcraft

Yup, there is a lot of hype on the net. And a huge amount of fear tactics. And this is a consumer nation that responds to fear with purchasing.

      Skills are far more important.

And high quality food in your diet even more important.

Economic collapse is a measurable progressive and real problem that we see daily online, in newspapers, on the news – everywhere. Its reality is undeniable, whereas other disasters (EMP, Volcanic eruption, etc.) are feared but we don’t know if or when they will happen acutely.

    • Marjory Wildcraft

      Hi Eric,

Well I suppose the good news is, if you are preparing for economic collapse, you are well ahead of the curve on all the other scenarios.

  7. I think a list of all causes in the form of a pie chart, maybe, and with a brief explanation of the causes, should be sent to all members.

We need to know threats we perceive we are facing and are preparing for.

I think the greatest and likeliest environmental threat of the century will be ocean acidification.

    • Marjory Wildcraft

Wow, ocean acidification… I didn’t get that one on the list either. Those huge garbage pools int eh oceans are c of concern too. Perhaps I’ll do another survey soon. Thanks for posting.

  8. TomK

I’m not sure collapse will happen but, as with other empires of the past a definite decline coupled with slow inflation is going on right now, with food being right in the middle. If anything were to happen to the global food transportation system the United States relys on, people will see prices triple if not more.

    • Marjory Wildcraft

      Hi tom,

Yes, right on. Regardless of the collapse situation, food will be the central issue – uh, along with water.
